Yellow Springs is a village with a population of 3,697 in 2020
Like much of the surrounding area, it was settled around 1800, although visible reminders of earlier cultures - like Orator's Mound in nearby Glen Helen - are common in the region. The name of the town was derived from the iron oxide-rich spring just east of the current town's borders. Much of the village's early commerce was based around its supposedly curative spring water.
The Little Miami Railroad linking Cincinnati and Springfield once ran through the village, but the route is now a paved bicycle trail. The historic railway station has been rebuilt, and is now used as a visitor information center and art gallery.
